“Houthis, supported by Iran, have used missiles, armed drones and explosive boats to attack civilian and military targets in those coalition countries, including areas frequented by American citizens, such as the airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In addition, the conflict in Yemen represents a ‘cheap’ and inexpensive way for Iran to cause trouble for the United States and for our ally, Saudi Arabia.” (Donald Trump/apnews.com)

“UN has sounded the alarm on Monday night about children in Yemen, reporting that thousands have been killed in the Saudi-and-UAE-led war in neighbouring Yemen. The UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba said that more than 7,500 children have been killed in the war.” (alaraby.co.uk)

"The figures for verified grave violations against children in Yemen during that period are staggering: more than 3,000 children were verified as recruited and used, more than 7,500 children were killed and maimed and over 800 cases of denial of humanitarian access to children were documented." Between 250 and 370 civilians killed by US-led air strikes in seven days of fighting, says monitor Airwars

The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State may have killed hundreds of civilians in the first week of March in support of Iraqi forces storming western Mosul, according to reports by monitoring group Airwars.

Using open-source data and witness reports, the group estimated that between 250 and 370 civilians had been killed in 11 incidents in the heavily populated western side of the city since 1 March. Out of the 11 incidents, four were backed by two or more sources saying the coalition was responsible for the strikes, it said.

Monitor says US-led coalition killed at least 225 civilians in past month, surpassing 146 civilian deaths caused by Syrian government strikes

The number of civilians killed in air strikes by the US-led coalition in Syria over the past month was the highest monthly toll since it began its campaign against the Islamic State (IS) group in 2014, a monitoring organisation said on Tuesday.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that at least 225 civilians including 44 children and 36 women had been killed in the month between 23 April and 23 May.

Over 21 000 birds killed by storms on French coast since the end of January

(The Watchers)

Atlantic Puffin or Common Puffin is one of the hardest hit species

According to the French national Bird Protection League (LPO), more than 21 000 sea birds have died since the end of January on France's Atlantic coast due to storms in the worst "slaughter" in a century.

A total of 21 341 dead birds had been counted up to February 24 on the southwestern Basque coast and in Brittany in northwestern France. The count had been carried out over three weekends and involved more than 500 volunteers. This is a provisional toll and the final numbers could be much higher. Nearly 2,800 were housed in bird protection shelters in these areas.

The worst affected species were the Atlantic Puffin, the Common Murre or Common Guillemot and the Razorbill.

LPO's Nicolas Gendre explains that the birds used up more energy to survive and seek food during storms - so the birds basically died of starvation. Storms had forced the birds to areas that are less rich in food. The last such mass deaths only occurred in 1900.

LPO stated there had also been some number of deaths caused by pollution as a result of cargo ships taking advantage of the inclement conditions to dump noxious gases at sea.
